Dr. Bouchra Mouhtadi and Dr. Lama Faddoul participated in the 6th International Pharmaceutical Care Conference, under the theme 'Towards Professional Excellence in Pharmacy Practices'. It was organized by the Ministry of Health in the Sultanate of Oman on the 3rd and 4th of February, 2016.

During the conference, Dr. Faddoul and Dr. Mouhtadi, clinical instructors at the School of Pharmacy, pre¬sented posters titled “The impact of Pramipixole Release (ER) Formulation on the Total Levodopa Equivalent Daily Dose (LEDD) for Parkinson Disease Patients” and “Trends in the Prevalence, Awareness, Treatment, Control and Risk Factors Associated with Hypertension in Lebanese Adults: a Cross Sectional Study” respectively. The two posters earned a certificate for participation. At the end of the conference Dr. Lama Faddoul won the first prize for professional posters

The forum was chaired by Pharmacist Nussaiba Habib Mohamed, Director General of Medical Supplies. Over 600 health care professionals from the MOH, Ministry of Defense, Royal Oman Police, Diwan of Royal Court, and Sultan Qaboos University Hospital participated in the Conference. In addition to international agencies such as Saudi Food & Drug Authority, Institute for Safe Medication Practice (ISMP), and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) from the United States of America. The major participants in the forum were Dr. John A. Armitstead, President of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), Dr. Allen J. Vaida, Executive Vice president in USA, Prof. Bryony Dean Franklin, Executive lead Pharmacist Research and Director, (Imperial college Healthcare NHS Trust, UK), Prof. Jacqueline Surugue, past President of FIP Hospital section and president of European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP), Dr. Steven M. Riddle, Director of clinical development, USA, and Dr. David Wood, Pharmaceutical Consultant, New Zealand.

The Conference aimed at describing the evolving pharmacy practice in the coming future and discussing the roles and responsibilities of the medication safety employee or individual responsible for medication safety oversight. Moreover, it aimed to understand the Core Pharmacy Performance Indicators as recommended by the Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA), and identified the key elements of a medication safety program and strategic plan.

On the second day of the conference, Dr. Faddoul and Dr. Mouhtadi attended a workshop,” How Can a National Drug Formulary Promote Excellence in pharmaceutical Care?” presented by Dr. David Wood. It discussed the importance of a national formulary, the obstacles and solution to implement it.
